I am writing this blog because we live in a time of historic change. Economic, political, societal, and environmental changes are all occurring at once. Old ideologies are rising, and new ones are being formed. Inside the United States, radical fundamentalist Christianity has joined a broad alliance of other groups seeking to overthrow the current two-party system. What their new American vision is, varies from group to group, and what the end result will be is unclear. The U.S.-led world order is in decline. Russia is a hollowed-out shell of an old empire. China has risen, but can it stay a world power throughout the century? I am writing this blog to try and cut through the disinformation, propaganda, and fake news that is currently sweeping through the internet, and our culture. This propaganda is extremely dangerous and does come from all sides and groups on the political spectrum. I will be focusing my efforts mostly on the alt-right, Christian nationalists, Russia, and other similar groups, as they are currently some of the most active and dangerous. I am also more familiar with them, as I grew up in a conservative, fundamentalist Christian home. These groups can be characterized as broadly anti-liberal and are seeking to overthrow the current US-led world order or transform it into something else. They would replace this order with conservative systems that place little or no value on human rights. The next years will be full of conflict and change. Let us hope we emerge in an age of light and reason, not darkness and despair.
